What Is Facial PRP?

Facial PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy is a regenerative skin treatment that uses your own blood as a concentrated biological repair signal.

A small blood sample is drawn and processed in a centrifuge to isolate platelets and growth factors. This concentrated PRP is then delivered to the skin via micro-needling or superficial injection.

These growth factors — including PDGF, TGF-beta and VEGF — activate fibroblasts, stimulate collagen production and accelerate cellular turnover. The result is gradual improvement in skin quality, texture and tone.

Because PRP is derived entirely from your own blood, it is highly biocompatible with minimal risk of allergic reaction or rejection.

At Lyfe Medical Wellness, facial PRP is performed under physician supervision, with protocol selection based on your skin condition, age and treatment goals.

What Facial PRP Addresses

Skin Texture and Surface Quality

Rough, uneven or dull skin surface caused by environmental damage, ageing or post-acne scarring responds well to PRP — the growth factors stimulate cellular turnover and improve the skin’s surface quality over time.

Fine Lines and Early Wrinkle Depth

PRP stimulates new collagen production in the dermal layer — gradually improving the depth and appearance of fine lines and early wrinkles across the face.

Loss of Skin Radiance and Glow

One of the most consistently noticed results from facial PRP is an improvement in skin luminosity — the natural glow that healthy, well-hydrated and actively renewing skin produces.

Skin Tone and Pigmentation

PRP supports the reduction of uneven skin tone, mild pigmentation and redness by improving cellular turnover and the skin’s overall regenerative capacity.

Post-Acne Scarring

The tissue remodelling effect of PRP’s growth factors makes it a useful treatment for patients with residual post-acne scarring — improving the surface texture and reducing the depth of shallow scarring over a course of sessions.

General Skin Quality Decline

For patients whose skin has lost the vitality, firmness and quality it once had — whether from ageing, sun exposure, stress or environmental factors — facial PRP addresses the biological root of that decline rather than just the surface appearance.

What to Expect

Your appointment begins with a brief consultation where Dr. Eak confirms your treatment plan and assesses the areas to be treated. A small blood draw — approximately 20ml, similar to a routine blood test — is then taken from your arm. This takes around 5–10 minutes. The blood is placed in the centrifuge for approximately 15 minutes to prepare the PRP.

The PRP is then applied to the facial skin. If micro-needling is used, a topical numbing cream is applied to the face 20–30 minutes beforehand for comfort. The micro-needling device creates fine channels across the skin surface through which the PRP penetrates into the dermis — the full application takes 30–40 minutes. Alternatively, where targeted injection is appropriate, Dr. Eak injects the PRP directly into the specific areas of concern.

After treatment, your skin will appear red and feel warm — similar in appearance to mild sunburn. This typically settles within 24–48 hours. Mild swelling and sensitivity in the treated area is normal for the first 1–2 days. There is no significant downtime — most patients return to normal activities the following day.

Results develop gradually over 4–8 weeks as new collagen forms. A course of 2–3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. Maintenance sessions every 6–12 months sustain the improvement over time.

What Conditions and Goals Does Stem Cell Therapy Address?

Facial PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP therapy uses your own blood-derived growth factors to stimulate natural skin regeneration. After a small blood draw, platelets are concentrated and reintroduced into the skin via micro-needling or superficial injection.

These growth factors — including PDGF, TGF-beta and VEGF — signal collagen production, accelerate tissue repair and improve overall skin quality. Because PRP is autologous (from your own body), it carries minimal risk of reaction and is well-suited for patients seeking a natural, biological approach to skin rejuvenation.

PRP is particularly effective for improving skin texture, early fine lines, post-acne scarring and overall skin vitality.

Facial Exosome Therapy

Exosome therapy delivers a highly concentrated set of growth factors, proteins and signalling molecules derived from stem cells. These extracellular vesicles act as powerful biological messengers — enhancing cellular communication, accelerating repair processes and supporting deeper regenerative activity within the skin.

Compared to PRP, exosomes provide a broader and more potent regenerative signal, making them particularly effective for advanced skin ageing, pigmentation, inflammation and overall skin renewal.

This therapy is often chosen by patients seeking faster, more intensive results or those combining regenerative treatments for optimal skin improvement.

Note — PRP for Joints

Facial PRP is a completely different treatment from PRP for joint pain. They share the same biological source (your blood) but serve entirely different clinical purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Facial PRP, also known as the “vampire facial,” is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses your body’s own platelet-rich plasma to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, and promote natural healing. It’s a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that enhances skin health and appearance.

PRP is extracted from a small sample of your blood, which is processed to separate platelet-rich plasma. This plasma, rich in growth factors and proteins, is then applied topically or injected into the skin to stimulate cell regeneration, boost collagen production, and enhance skin elasticity.

Facial PRP can effectively treat:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Acne scars and pigmentation
  • Dull, tired-looking skin
  • Sagging skin and loss of elasticity

Facial PRP is suitable for individuals who want to:

  • Rejuvenate their skin naturally without synthetic products
  • Minimize signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines
  • Improve skin texture, tone, and radiance
  • Reduce acne scars or hyperpigmentation

It’s ideal for all skin types and ages, especially for those seeking a non-surgical, natural approach to skin rejuvenation.

Yes, Facial PRP is considered very safe because it uses your body’s own plasma, eliminating the risk of allergic reactions or adverse side effects. When performed by a qualified practitioner, it’s a low-risk procedure.

Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. A numbing cream is typically applied before the treatment to enhance comfort. The sensation may feel like light pricks or tingling.

A typical Facial PRP session takes about 45–60 minutes, including the time for blood collection, PRP preparation, and treatment.

There is minimal downtime. You may experience mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated areas, which usually subsides within 1–3 days. Many patients return to normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Some improvements, such as increased hydration and glow, are noticeable within a week. However, the full benefits, including smoother skin and reduced wrinkles, develop gradually over 4–6 weeks as collagen production increases.

The results of Facial PRP typically last 6–12 months, depending on your skin condition, lifestyle, and age. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 6–12 months to sustain the effects.

For optimal results, 3–4 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart are recommended.

Facial PRP has minimal side effects, which may include:

  • Redness, swelling, or mild bruising at the injection sites
  • Temporary sensitivity or dryness of the skin
  • These effects are temporary and resolve within a few days.
  • Avoid alcohol, aspirin, or other blood-thinning medications and supplements for 3–5 days before your session to reduce bruising.
  • Stay hydrated to ensure better blood flow and PRP quality.
  • Avoid harsh skincare treatments like peels or exfoliants a few days prior.
  • Avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen daily.
  • Refrain from using makeup, exfoliants, or harsh skincare products for 24–48 hours.
  • Stay hydrated and use a gentle moisturizer to soothe your skin.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas, or hot baths for 24–48 hours.

Yes, Facial PRP can be combined with microneedling, chemical peels, or other rejuvenation treatments for enhanced results.
