What Is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mild HBOT) involves breathing air in a specially designed pressurised environment — at Lyfe Medical Wellness, this is set to 1.3 ATA (atmospheres absolute), a gentle and safe pressure level distinct from the much higher pressures used in traditional clinical HBOT chambers (typically 2.0 to 3.0 ATA with 100% oxygen).

The science behind mild HBOT rests on Henry’s Law: under increased pressure, more gas dissolves into liquid. In this case, more oxygen dissolves directly into the blood plasma and body fluids — beyond what is carried by haemoglobin alone. This dissolved oxygen reaches tissues, capillaries and cells that may not receive adequate oxygen under normal atmospheric conditions.

At 1.3 ATA, mild HBOT achieves a meaningful increase in tissue oxygenation while avoiding the risks associated with very high-pressure or high-concentration oxygen therapy. Research published in peer-reviewed journals has demonstrated that mild hyperbaric conditions can reduce oxidative stress markers, improve fatigue scores, support immune function and promote metabolic and cellular recovery.

At Lyfe Medical Wellness, our mild HBOT suite is not a conventional chamber. It is a comfortable, purpose-designed suite where you can sit upright, work on a laptop, use WiFi and move naturally throughout your session — making it one of the most accessible regenerative therapies we offer.

Mild HBOT at 1.3 ATA: research has confirmed that this pressure level with ambient air can deliver more than 50% elevation in tissue oxygenation compared to normal atmospheric conditions.

Mild HBOT Sessions at Lyfe Medical Wellness, Rawai Clinic

Our mild HBOT suite is located exclusively at our Rawai Clinic in Phuket. It is a comfortable, fully equipped space — not a traditional chamber where you lie down in an enclosed tube. Our suite is designed for ease and accessibility: you can sit upright in a comfortable seat, work on a laptop, connect to WiFi, read or rest. A table is provided inside the suite.

Sessions run at 1.3 ATA. Most patients begin with sessions of 60 minutes, with duration adjusted based on goals and physician recommendation. The environment is pressurised gently at the start and depressurised at the end of each session — a process that is gradual, comfortable and does not carry the risks associated with high-pressure diving or standard medical HBOT chambers.

Your Mild HBOT Experience at Lyfe Medical Wellness

Who Can Benefit from Mild HBOT in Phuket?

  • Adults experiencing fatigue, low energy or slow recovery from physical or cognitive demand

  • Athletes and active individuals seeking faster recovery and performance support

  • Those undergoing other regenerative programmes at Lyfe Medical Wellness who want to optimise their cellular environment

  • International travellers experiencing jet lag or fatigue from long-haul travel

  • Patients interested in cognitive support, stress reduction and mental clarity

  • Those seeking a comfortable, accessible and evidence-referenced cellular support therapy

Is Mild HBOT Safe?

Mild HBOT at 1.3 ATA has an excellent safety profile when used appropriately. The low pressure level means there is no risk of oxygen toxicity or decompression sickness. The gentle pressurisation and depressurisation process is well-tolerated by the vast majority of patients.

The most common minor experience during mild HBOT is a sensation of ear pressure during pressurisation — similar to descending in an aeroplane. This is easily managed by swallowing or yawning to equalise pressure, and our team will guide you through this before your first session.

Contraindications — Mild HBOT is Not Recommended For:

  • Untreated pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
  • Fever or systemic inflammation
  • Uncontrolled seizure disorders
  • Pregnancy (as a precaution)

  • Severe COPD or emphysema with CO2 retention
  • Recent chemotherapy — including Cisplatin. Please consult our physician before booking.

  • Recent ear surgery or chronic ear issues

  • Active upper respiratory infections

All patients complete a brief pre-treatment screening questionnaire before their first session. If you have any of the above conditions or are uncertain about your suitability, please contact us and our physician will advise.

Mild HBOT — Frequently Asked Questions

Standard HBOT uses 100% oxygen at 2.0 to 3.0 ATA in a rigid medical chamber — a clinical procedure with specific medical indications. Mild HBOT at Lyfe Medical Wellness uses ambient air at 1.3 ATA in a comfortable suite — a therapeutic and recovery-focused intervention supported by peer-reviewed research. The mechanisms overlap but the applications, risk profiles and settings are different.

This depends on your goals. Some patients use mild HBOT as a one-off or occasional recovery tool; others follow a programme of 10 to 20 sessions for more sustained benefits. Our physician can advise based on your specific situation.

The suite is comfortable and calm. You may notice a mild sensation of ear pressure at the start as the suite pressurises — this is normal and easily managed. Most patients find the session relaxing. You can sit, work, read or rest throughout. WiFi is available inside the suite.

Sessions are priced from THB 3,300 per session at our Rawai Clinic. Multi-session packages are available at a reduced rate. Please contact us for current package pricing.

No — mild HBOT is currently available exclusively at our Rawai Clinic. Please mention this when booking to ensure your appointment is at the correct location.

Yes. Mild HBOT is often used alongside intravenous therapies such as NAD+ therapy, peptide therapy and other regenerative programmes. By increasing oxygen availability in the bloodstream, mild HBOT may support improved circulation and tissue oxygenation following IV administration — helping deliver nutrients and therapeutic compounds more efficiently at the cellular level. Your physician will advise on the most effective combination based on your treatment goals.
